Below are some guidelines for what you can expect after
surgery. While every patient is different, these are the
most common post-surgical recommendations. If you have
questions at any time, please contact Dr. Markus’s
office. Your emotional and physical well being are our
primary concern. Immediately
After Surgery
- The
period of greatest discomfort usually does not last
more than one to two days—possibly less. You
will be given pain medication to reduce and control
this discomfort.
- Do
not use the bathroom without assistance.
- There
will be some drainage from the incisions. Replace
drainage pads if the become saturated.
- Protect
sheets from excess drainage.
- You
will leave with an elastic bandage or compression
garment over the treated areas to control swelling
and assist healing. Dr. Markus will tell you how long
you must wear it and when it can be removed to bathe.
- You
will visit the office one day following your surgery
at which time your dressing will be changed.
The Weeks Following Surgery
- Be
sure to rest and allow time for your complete recovery.
You will tire more easily following surgery.
- When
you will be able to drive depends on the number of
liposuction areas. Dr. Markus will let you know when
you will be able to drive.
- Do
not lift any heavy objects or strain yourself for
several weeks after surgery.
- Plan
to return to work in four to seven days following
surgery. When you do return, remember you may tire
easily so allow rest periods.
- Postpone
your exercise program for three weeks. Dr. Markus
will advise you when it is time to resume your program.
- If
any sutures were used, they will be removed by Dr.
Markus in the office.
