Why should I have gynecomastia surgery?

Gynecomastia surgery can give you a firmer and more natural looking chest. If you have been self-conscious about your chest, the surgery can help you feel less self-conscious and perhaps more confident.

How long does the surgery take?

Gynecomastia surgery generally takes between one to two hours, depending on the tissue make-up of your breast enlargement and how much tissue needs to be removed and contoured.

How long will I be in the hospital?

Most men go home the day after surgery. You should arrange to have someone pick you up and take you home. You should have someone stay with you for the first 24 hours.

How long will I have to stay home?

Recovery varies from person to person. You will experience some bruising and swelling, but you should be able to go back to work in about a week as long as it does not require any strenuous activity. You should be able to return to your exercise and more strenuous activity in two to three weeks.

What about exposing my chest to the sun?

For the first six months or so, you should avoid exposing the surgical area to the sun. The incisions will be very sensitive to sunlight and should be protected with sunscreen.
