Our self-confidence is greatly affected by our self-consciousness.
If you have what you consider to be a noticeable flaw,
you can be distracted by trying to determine what others
think that flaw says about you. Many men with overly
developed breasts or gynecomastia often feel this discomfort
and believe that this is the first thing people notice
about them. Though gynecomastia is fairly common,
affecting some 40 to 60 percent of men, it can be
a powerful source of embarrassment and even shame.
Gynecomastia may be caused by weight, use of anabolic
steroids, alcohol or marijuana, or simply excess fat
and tissue. For those whose gynecomastia is caused
by excess tissue and fat, gynecomastia, male breast
reduction, surgery will reduce the size of your breasts
and give them a more contoured look that is firmer,
smoother, and more natural.
If your gynecomastia is caused by weight, you should
first try a weight-loss and exercise program to see
if your breasts reduce as you lose weight. The same
is true for gynecomastia caused by substance use, discontinuing
the drugs may reduce your breasts' size.
Male Breast Reduction Surgery. Gynecomastia
that is caused by either excess glandular or fatty
tissue can be corrected with surgery. How Dr. Norman
Markus performs your gynecomastia surgery will depend
on the make-up of the breast enlargement.
If your gynecomastia is made up of primarily fatty
tissue, Dr. Norman Markus will perform liposuction
through a small incision on the breast. Dr. Norman
Markus will insert a small tube through the incision
and use internal ultrasound assist liposuction, which
will break up and remove the excess fat. At the same
time, Dr. Norman Markus will contour the shape of the
breast using internal ultrasound assist liposuction.
If your gynecomastia is made up primarily of glandular
tissue, Dr. Norman Markus will also remove the excess
tissue through an incision on the edge of the areola.
Dr. Norman Markus will remove excess tissue and fat
from the sides and around the bottom of the breast.
At the same time, he will contour the remaining tissue
to give you a more natural look.
Rarely, if a large amount of tissue needs to be removed,
a larger incision might be required and may be more
noticeable. In addition, excess skin may need to be
removed to ensure that your new breast shape is firm
and looks more natural.
