Below are some guidelines for what you can expect after
surgery. While every patient is different, these are
the most common post-surgical recommendations. If you
have questions at any time, please contact Dr. Markus's
office. Your emotional and physical well being are our
primary concern.
The
First Day
After
surgery, you will have a bandage wrapped around your
face to control swelling. You may also have drainage
tubes beneath your skin to drain fluids that may accumulate.
You may feel some discomfort, but it can be treated
with Extra-Strength Tylenol or medication prescribed
by Dr. Markus.
After
surgery, you should rest with your head elevated to
help minimize bruising and swelling.
Dressings.
Do not remove any dressing or surgical tape until instructed
to do so. Dressing must be kept dry.
The
First Week
- In
the first week, any swelling will reach its peak and
begin to subside.
- Dr.
Markus will remove your bandages and drainage tubes.
- You
may return to very light activity, but you must continue
to sleep with your head raised.
- After
48 hours, you may gently wash any areas not covered
by dressings with water only. Your scalp incisions
can get wet after 48 hours and you can wash your hair
gently with baby shampoo.
The
Following Weeks
- Most
of the bruising will disappear within two weeks.
- Dr.
Markus will remove your stitches and advise you when
you may begin to wear makeup to conceal any discoloration.
- Dr.
Markus will tell you when you may resume more strenuous
activities.
- Avoid
exposure to direct sunlight and use sun block to protect
your skin.
