Post-operative instructions and experiences are different
depending on the type of forehead lift you've had. It's
important to keep your head elevated for 2 to 3 days
after surgery to reduce swelling. Use cold compresses
to control any swelling that may occur on the lower
part of your face. Do not use compresses on the dressing-they
must remain dry.
Do
not brush your hair until Dr. Markus gives the okay.
You must be careful not to disturb the stitches or staples.
You
may experience some numbness and pain that can be controlled
with medication. As you heal, the numb areas on your
scalp may begin to itch. These sensations can take up
to 6 months to fully disappear.
You
will be able to shower and shampoo within 2 days as
long as your bandages have been removed (usually within
2 to 3 days). When you shampoo, use Johnson's Baby Shampoo
and blow dry your hair on the coolest possible setting.
Sutures
are usually removed 7 to 14 days following surgery at
which point you will also be able to return to work.
Strenuous activities such as jogging, bending, heavy
housework, and sex should be avoided for 2 to 3 weeks
following surgery. You will also have to limit your
exposure to heat and sun for several months.
After
an endoscopic forehead lift, you will experience some
minimal discomfort at the incision sites. Patients who
undergo this procedure generally experience less of
the itching sensation as well. You may experience some
temporary hair loss or thinning around the incision
sites, however, regrowth should resume within a few
weeks or months.
