What if my cancer recurs or occurs in the other breast?
If cancer recurs, your reconstructed breast will not interfere with further treatment but the treatment you receive could affect the appearance of your reconstructed breast.

Are breast implants safe?
Yes. Dr. Markus uses only saline-filled implants which is a silicone rubber shell filled with sterile saltwater. In the unlikely event that an implant ruptures, your body will absorb the totally harmless saltwater.

Will I need more than one treatment?
You will probably need future treatments because the implants are not considered lifetime devices. Many women may undergo implant removal and probably replacement over the course of their lives.

Are the results permanent?
While the implants can be removed, the changes to your chest are irreversible. Once implants are removed, you may notice cosmetic changes to the chest wall including dimpling, puckering, and wrinkling.

Are there any alternatives to breast reconstruction once I've had a mastectomy?
Many women choose to wear a prosthetic in their bra. These come in various shapes and sizes and can be custom made.
