Procedure: Bilateral breast
reduction.
Patient
Concerns: This 16 year old girl had many
of the classical symptoms of breast reduction
candidates. She was 5’3” tall,
weighed 140 lbs and wore a 36D brassiere.
She complained of breast discomfort and
pain and back discomfort. This high school
teenager was subject to constant teasing.
She desired her breasts to be in proportion
to her body.
Dr.
Markus’ Treatment: Bilateral
breast reduction was performed utilizing
the inferior pedicle technique. With this
technique, there is a robust blood supply
to the nipple and aerola and allows the
greatest opportunity for preservation of
sensation. In addition, this is the safest
approach available. Preoperatively, there
was breast asymmetry with the left breast
larger than the right. During surgery, more
tissue was removed from the left side in
order to provide balance. Approximately,
1 pound of tissue was removed on each side
and patient breast size was changed from
a 36D to a 36C.
Patient
Comments: “Best thing I ever
did in my life. Dramatically changed my
life – I can exercise, walk and can
wear normal bras not sport bras.”
